OMG

Was calling to company with the name Direct Energy (it’s like Enbridge in Ontario I guess) to open an account for our store in Calgary

And ask them to use our address in Ottawa as a mailing……I was spelling Ottawa, Ontario to the agent 3 times with no luck….after instead of spelling again i asked here “What’s the capital of Canada?”…and get an answer “Is it not Ontario?”……I’m telling you we will end up with 911 call centres in India

During my flight to Calgary read that this city was voted as “Best place for start ups and small business” and two things which killed me when i touched reality:
- business tax. Just a tax for those who is doing business in Calgary. Doing business in calgary? Pay Business tax no matter what.

- can’t get business license until fire inspection is done. wtf? it’s like back home in Ukraine. Why here in Ontario I’m getting my BL in 5 minutes online and there I have to do it over the phone and wait until somebody will show up during 1 week to check if i bought distinguish?

Paid almost 600$ for flight Ottawa-Calgary-Ottawa with westjet

4 hours flight and didn’t get even a cheap plane breakfast on board

WTF? where’s competition?  How come that for the same price i can get one week trip to Cube, including flight with breakfast and champagne on board?

It’s not savings – it’s absolute shame for all Canadian air industry

When I decide to open a floral production studio in Calgary of cause the first questions i have to find an answer on – Where it’s gonna be located.

So, like always, just googled “lease warehouse calgary” and of cause number #1 result is calgary’s kijiji

Tried to find something there in my budget 1000-2000$ for about 1000 sq. feet and no luck looks like there is no choice at all. As i heard a lot about Calgary as like crazy fast growing city it was not surprise for me that not much offers in warehouses.

So decided to place there my ad that kind of looking for warehouse bla,bla,bla. Just one guy respond to me and offered one unit which was pretty attractive from all points.

Decided to go to Calgary personally to take a look on place and sign lease right there. And can’t explain how upset I was when found that there is no water in unit i almost signed lease over the internet. At the next moment i was in real frustration: make 4 hours flight, spent 600 on ticket and get unit which useless for flower business as no water. As i still had a day in advance in Calgary so said them to give me some time to make final decision.

And how surprised I was when just start to drive around that business park and saw tones of ads about “warehouse for lease or sale”. Absolutely no offers in internet and mass of empty spaces in real life.

So I end up at the meeting with the owner of one of many half empty commercial buildings. And heard a story about how bad is recession, prices droped down, no customers etc

Finally signed beautiful unit- great price etc but till now can’t understand – Why if you have problems, why if there is real recession, Why you are not even trying to fix something in terms of advertising.

This guy from whom i rent a unit, printed me all offers of warehouses in Calgary – tons and tons of beautiful units with currently very good pricing and i didn’t see any of the those advertised on kijiji or somewhere else. Why nobody put information about that on the most popular web site? It’s absolutely free, so why nobody doing this?

This is kind of thing which is absolutely paradox for me. You have problem but not even trying to resolve it. Or maybe years of growth and fat pockets make them very lazy and out of date?
